Engine Repairs & Replacements
Timing chains, turbos, head gaskets and full engine replacements. Engine out work done properly, in our own workshop, with the cause found before the part is fitted.
Engine Work Most Garages Send Away.
Engines out, heads off, timing chains, turbos and full replacements. This is the work a lot of independents will not take on, and it is exactly the work we are set up for.
The photos on this page are all jobs from our own unit. Engine and gearbox out as a unit, block stripped, turbo compared old against new. That is what proper engine work looks like, and it is why we can be straight with you about what is involved.
Every engine job starts with finding out why the failure happened. Fitting a new part to the same underlying problem is how people end up paying twice.
Engine Work We Take On.
If your car has been turned away elsewhere, this is usually the list it fell off the end of.
Timing Chains & Cambelts
Rattle on start up, a stretched chain or a belt that is simply due. Done with the tensioners, guides and pump so it is finished properly.
Turbochargers
Whistling, smoking, lost power or oil consumption. We diagnose the cause, replace the turbo and clear the pipework so the new one survives.
Head Gaskets
Overheating, mayonnaise under the oil cap or pressure in the coolant. Heads off, checked for warping and rebuilt properly.
Oil Leaks & Pumps
Rocker covers, sumps, oil coolers, seals and pump problems, traced to the actual source rather than degreased and hoped for.
Engine Replacements
When a repair does not make financial sense, we source and fit a replacement engine and transfer everything across.
Misfires & Poor Running
Coils, injectors, compression problems and vacuum leaks. Diagnosed with live data before anything gets bought.

Engine Trouble? Talk To Us First.
Before you write the car off or pay for a replacement, let us look at it properly and tell you what it actually needs.
While It's With Us.
Most people get more than one thing sorted in the same visit. It saves you a second trip and usually saves money on labour too.
Common Questions.
It depends on what has failed, what the rest of the car is worth and how long you want to keep it. A timing chain or a turbo on an otherwise good car is usually worth doing. A spun bearing on a high mileage car often is not.
We will give you both prices, repair and replacement, and an honest opinion. Sometimes the honest answer is that the car has had its day, and we will say that too.
Typically several days once the engine has arrived, depending on the vehicle and what has to come off to get it out. You will get a realistic timescale before we start and updates as it goes.
On most engines yes, because the pump is driven by the belt and the labour is already paid for. Replacing a cheap pump later means paying the same labour a second time, and a seized pump can destroy a new belt.
Yes, we replace turbochargers regularly. The important part is finding out why the old one failed. Fit a new turbo to a blocked oil feed or a restricted filter and it will fail again, so we check the cause before fitting.
Overheating is the usual culprit, whether from a coolant leak, a failed thermostat, a stuck fan or a water pump giving up. That is why the temperature light is one you should never drive on.
We source what suits the job and the budget, whether that is new, reconditioned or a good low mileage used unit. You get told exactly what is being fitted and what warranty comes with it.
